Parks board founder Preston S. Miller dies

Preston S. Miller, 87, of Bowling Green died at 6:10 p.m. June 16, 2001, at his home.The Butler County native was president and founder of Millers Bottled Gas, a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Bowling Green City Council for 12 years and was president of the City Council. He was a founding chairman of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Board, serving on the board for 19 years. He was a chairman of the Morgantown Road Water District, served as director of the Kentucky Propane Gas Association, was a member of the National Propane Gas Association and belonged to the Ancient Gassers. He was one of the first members of Forrest Park Baptist Church, where he was deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and chairman of all building committees. He was a son of the late Claude Miller and Della Smith Miller and the husband of the late Ola Mae Miller.Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to National Propane Gas Association Foundation (Scholarship Fund); Lost River Cave Association or the charity of ones choice.Survivors include a son, Glenn Miller of Bowling Green; two daughters, Joyce Bierman and Bettye Ruth Cleveland, both of Bowling Green; four sisters, Ruth Southard of Princeton, Claudia North of Los Angeles, Sylvia Gross of Evansville, Ind., and Trilby Ball of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
