Jefferson D. Caskey, 78, of Bowling Green died at 7:19 p.m. April 21, 2001, at The Medical Center.The Lancaster, S.C., native was a retired professor of library science at Western Kentucky University, a graduate of Erskine College in Due West, S.C., Syracuse University and University of Houston, a life member of Kentucky Library Association, a member of National Council of Teachers of English, Phi Delta Kappa and Kentucky Council of Teachers of English, a published author, a member of First Baptist Church and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a son of the late John Lathan Caskey and Lessie Helms Caskey.Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Jefferson and Louise Caskey Scholarship Fund, c/o Western Kentucky University, 1 Big Red Way, Bowling Green, Ky. 42101; First Baptist Church Library, 621 East 12th St., Bowling Green, Ky. 42101; or Alzheimers Association, 3703 Taylorsville Road, Suite 102, Louisville, Ky. 40220-1330.Survivors include his wife, Louise Huffaker Caskey; two daughters, Constance Caskey Huff of Harrodsburg and Gretchen Caskey Welch of Clermont, Ga.; three brothers, Chalmers Caskey of Severn, Md., Frank Caskey of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Robert Caskey of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Margaret Stack of Severn, Md.; four grandchildren; five nieces; and four nephews.
