James Fish of Richardsville is proud that his son Joshua is taking part in Americas war on terrorism. Its more than a just fight, James Fish said of U.S. forces hunt for terrorist Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan. Bin Laden didnt strike military targets. These were innocent people. I dont like President Bush much, but Im 100 percent behind him in this. Twenty-four-year-old Joshua is part of the elite Marine Special Forces team that is looking for bin Laden. He sneaks in at night and maps out the area, the father said of his son. There aint much of nothing he cant do. But he really cant tell us a whole lot about what he is doing now. On Wednesday, Lance Cpl. Joshua Fish was photographed patrolling the area around Kandahar International Airport by an Associated Press pool photographer. On Sept. 11, Fish was at sea, having last visited Bowling Green when the Southern Kentucky Fair was up and running. While most of Joshua Fishs family is in Bowling Green, his wife, the former Trish Reynolds of Bowling Green, is living in California while he is deployed. Joshua Fish, a graduate of Bowling Green High School, turned to the military when he didnt think there was much of a work future for him in Bowling Green, his father said. The military was a natural choice, since he participated in the ROTC program at BGHS.He joined the Marines because he wanted to be in the toughest group, James Fish said. And the Special Forces are the toughest of the tough. Were really proud of him, James Fish said of how he and wife Darlene feel. I dont worry about him much because of the training he received, he said. If he keeps his head on, hell be all right. But a cousin of Joshua, Dallas Fish of Bowling Green, is not as positive. I dont like it at all that hes there, he said. I wish he would have stayed at home. Darlene Fish said she also wishes he would come home. But I know hes got a job to do and thats why he joined the military, she said. But that doesnt keep her from worrying or from checking news reports each day. I worry as a mother does, she said. Im proud of all of (the soldiers), but I am especially proud of him. How long Fish will be in Afghanistan is not known. He cant say much other than he is all right, James Fish said. But he has asked us to send cigarettes and food. He only gets two meals a day and those are K-rations, so he might have chili for breakfast. So some of my friends and I have sent care packages. James Fish said he believes speculation that bin Laden has fled the caves of Afghanistan for Pakistan. I think we should go on over there after him, he said. We need to chase this guy down and find him.
