CAVE CITY Charles R. Blakey, 85, of Cave City died Dec. 14, 2001, at a Bowling Green nursing home.The Hart County native was retired from National Park Concessions as manager of Big Bend National Park, The Everglades, Blue Ridge Parkway, Olympic National Park and Mammoth Cave Hotel, served in the military police for the Army during World War II and was a member of Rowletts Baptist Church, Park City Masonic Lodge, Bearwallow Masonic Lodge, Edmonton South Masonic Lodge, Caverna and Glasgow Shrine Clubs and the Cave City and Horse Cave Chambers of Commerce. He served on the Cave City Council for 16 years and chaired many committees, was on the school board in Big Bend, Texas, was vice president of the Central Kentucky Cave Association, director of Cave City Tourist Association and past president of Cave City Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, he was chosen as Citizen of the Year by Cave City Chamber of Commerce and in 1991, he and his wife were named Mr. and Mrs. Cave City. He was a son of the late James Blakey and Vera Waddell Blakey and the husband of the late Margoline Schoolin Blakey.Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel with burial in Horse Cave Cemetery. Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Survivors include a brother, James Thomas Blakey of New Braunfels, Texas; two sisters, Louise Farris of Vienna, Va., and Elizabeth Franklin of Louisville; a nephew; four nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
