Whole county is built on caves

To hear some of the opponents of the transpark tell it, you would believe that there is some sort of especially delicate nature to the chosen site. They speak of the karst topography as if it were somehow different from the rest of Warren County, and therefore likely to be damaged by the development. Lets face it, our whole county is built on karst and caves. That includes the entire cities of Bowling Green and Smiths Grove, the current Bowling Green-Warren County (Regional) Airport, Western Kentucky University, the Plaza Hotel, industrial facilities like the Corvette plant, golf courses, streets, highways, homes, playgrounds and all the rest of it! A hundred thousand people live, learn, work and play here. Its not like this is a delicate place, fragile, dangerous, and unsuitable for development. Opponents of the transpark would have us believe that the countys leaders, particularly Mike Buchanon, are reckless and greedy speculators, developing this land without regard to the environment to enrich themselves. Nothing could be more wrong. Mike Buchanon has continued the tradition of Basil Griffin in setting aside land and building parks for the future of Warren Countians. And he is trying to develop this industrial park to organize and accommodate industrial growth for the new century as well. This is the kind of vision and leadership many counties wish they had, focused as it is on good land use and managed growth. Obviously, the transpark must be built with sensitivity to the environment and in compliance with all laws and good practice. I insist on that from the developers and the politicians, and I ask the current opponents of the project to join me. Lets build it, and lets be sure it is built right.David DicksonBowling Green
