Construction of a new 12-screen movie theater at Industrial Drive and Campbell Lane was to begin Monday. The 40,000-square-foot Great Escape Theatre will sit at the back of the property, facing Industrial Drive, said Gary Willoughby, project manager for Alliance Corp. Six commercial parcels of land at the front of the property will be available for development. Ground work and construction of the building pad, parking lot, a new street and underground utilities will go on simultaneously, Willoughby said. While the site is fairly level, it will require quite a bit of rock excavation, he said. The retention basins also will require some rock work. The shell of the building is like any other commercial building. Its whats inside that makes it different. Designed by an architectural firm specializing in theaters, each screening room will have stadium seating and Surround Sound. You wont be looking at the back of anyones head, Willoughby said. Construction is expected to be complete in late March or early April. The projects ceremonial ground breaking will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
