Boy drowns at Beech Bend Park

An 11-year-old Nashville boy drowned Saturday at the Beech Bend Park swimming pool.Steven Gatlin, son of Robina Gatlin, was one of about 45 people in a church group visiting the park, Warren County Deputy Coroner Chris Smith said. The fathers name was unavailable. Stevens grandmother, Donie Bayhim, was with him as part of the church group, Smith said. Emergency medical teams were called to the scene about 3:30 p.m. and Steven was pronounced dead at The Medical Center at 5:09 p.m., Smith said.Kentucky State Police Sgt. Steve Slone said there were no visible marks on the body and foul play is not suspected. He did not know whether an autopsy would be performed.Two unidentified adult males pulled the boy out of pool, and they, or anyone with information about who they are, are asked to call Trooper Tucker Carmichael to help fill in details about the incident, Slone said. The two primary witnesses are a 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, he said. Two lifeguards were on duty at the time, he said.Beech Bend Park owner Dallas Jones was unavailable for comment.
