Americans take freedom for granted

We take things for granted. As Americans, we have more freedom than (people in) any other country, yet we abuse these freedoms. Freedom is the liberation from slavery, restraint or power of another. We were given this right through war, segregation, discrimination, education and acceptance. But despite the struggle, the respect for freedom is diminishing. We use freedom of speech to justify the defamation of character, foul language and other acts of moral depravity. We use freedom of press to invade and ruin the lives of others. We abuse the right to bear arms by slaying and destroying those who walk the streets with us. We abuse our own freedom by sitting behind the wheel with a drink or with alcohol in our system. By taking advantage of our freedoms, we only ensure that they will be taken from us.When will we realize that our freedoms and rights are worth more than many of trivial things.I dont believe our sense of justice, the need to treat and be treated fairly, has been completely diminished. I see a determination in most of us to turn things around, to rid ourselves of the belief that we are so thick skinned and that we dont need to experience equality and impartiality. Justice has a significant role in our lives because it dictates how our lives will be led. If it werent for our justice system, I wouldnt feel as safe as I do at night when I fall asleep. We are not perfect, we dont pretend we are. But we have a beautiful city where we can live safely. We should celebrating our freedoms and the active role justice has in shaping our community.
