Aliance Entertainment from New Albany, Ind., closed the deal Thursday on a land purchase off Industrial Drive where the company plans to build a 14-screen movie theater, said Bowling Green commercial realtor Tom Baker. He said construction should begin within 30 days and the Great Escape 14 should be open for the holiday season. Theaters will have stadium seating high-back chairs positioned on risers to give everyone a clear view of the screen digital surroundsound, extra leg room and cupholders, according to company officers. The facility is also expected to have a giant game room and preview screens showing trailers of upcoming movies. Aliance plans to develop retail and fast food outlets along the front of the property line. The 19 acres the company purchased extends from Industrial Drive to the railroad tracks, is adjacent to that owned by Millers Bottled Gas and is across from Western Kentucky Universitys Intramural Athletic Complex. Im very excited about them coming to Bowling Green, because not only are they building this great theater, they will be making out-parcel lots available, Baker said. The development potential there is going to be huge. Therell be other people that will want to come in and surround this movie theater. Aliance Vice President John Miller said he expects the theater to show first-run films with the the possibility of some foreign or art films because of Westerns presence. The independent company operates five theaters in Indiana, Kentucky and Virginia, and are in construction on several other sites also. Greenwood 6, a Carmike theater, also plans to construct a mega-theater at its existing site near Greenwood Mall.
