FRANKLIN Dr. Charles Maxey Martin, 86, of Franklin died at 7:50 a.m. Feb. 19, 2000, at a Bowling Green nursing home.The Cloverport native was a retired dentist, a Mason, a Shriner, founder of Franklin-Simpson Swimming Pool, founding director of Franklin Bank & Trust, and a member of Franklin First Baptist Church American Legion Post 62, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5706, Franklin Lions Club, March of Dimes and American Dental Association. He was a son of the late Charles Slaughter Martin and Iona Puckett Martin.Funeral was today at Booker Gilbert Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Betty Martin; a son, Charles Cecil Martin of Bowling Green; three daughters, Maxine Swingle of Hilton Head, S.C., Iona Ruth Gore of Findlay, Ohio, and Mary Pope Rubbs of Hendersonville, Tenn.; four brothers, Dr. Roy A. Martin and Dr. Homer B. Martin, both of Louisville, Arch Wood Martin of St. Petersburg, Fla., and William L. Martin of Macon, Ga.; a sister, Frances Ellis of Glasgow; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
