W. Willard Cockrill, 85, of Bowling Green died at 10:20 p.m. Dec. 2, 2000, at Greenview Regional Hospital.The Scottsville native was a professor at Western Kentucky University, a World War II Army-Air Corp veteran, a graduate of University of Tennessee, Peabody College and Western and was a member of the American Geographical Society, The Meteorological Society of America, Kentucky Education Association, National Education Association and State Street United Methodist Church. He was honored as outstanding faculty member in public service at Western in 1979 and was the first weatherman for WBKO-TV. He was a son of the late Claude Cockrill and Mary Stovall Cockrill.Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to State Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1101 State St., Bowling Green, Ky. 42101.Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Kathy Harris Cockrill; two daughters, Anita Shrader of Bowling Green and Terry Powell of Elkton; a brother, Wayne Cockrill of Scottsville; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a nephew.
