The Warren East girls basketball team was unable to rally after a lackluster first half against Hart County on Monday. Warren East trailed 40-18 at halftime and was within 12 points in the third quarter before Hart pulled away for a 66-48 victory. At halftime they had 40 points and they were on route to an 80-point game, Warren East coach Angie Anderson said. We cant give up 40 in the first half and it wasnt their shooting. It was our defense and our kids know how to play defense. We cant blame it on being young and inexperienced like last year, because we are experienced varsity players. East earned its final lead 11-9 on a 3 by freshman Rachel Swisher with 4:38 remaining in the first half. Then the drought began. Warren East went the next nine minutes without a field goal, hitting one free throw in that stretch. Meanwhile, Hart County took advantage by scoring 24 points and forcing 10 Warren East turnovers during the Lady Raiders struggles. We really executed well, Hart County coach Tommy Adams said. We played good man defense. (Keshia Forrest) was a big concern for us. Shes an athlete and a player. Swisher is tough on the outside and we sort of slowed her down. East finally ended its drought on a jumper by Amber Sparks with 3:38 left in the half, but by that time Hart County had built a 34-14 lead. WEHS had one final charge in the third quarter. East used a 12-2 run to pull within 12 points, 42-30. Hart County answered with two treys from seventh-grader Lindsay Highbaugh and a steal and a 3 from sophomore Jessica Baker as time expired in the quarter with Hart County leading 51-32.East got only as close as 15 points in the final quarter. Anderson said she was disappointed in her teams play, but added that she was the one to blame. We came in Sunday and I thought we needed our legs more than we needed a really hard practice, Anderson said. We worked on our shooting, because I felt like that was what cost us the game against Greenwood. Our heart and our effort were there, and tonight it wasnt. Swisher and Forrest led East with 14 points. Forrest added 12 points. Baker had 15 points to lead Hart County. Hart County (8-6) will host North Hardin at 7 p.m. tonight. Warren East (7-11) will play at Bowling Green at 6 p.m. Friday. Hart County 21 19 11 15 – 66Warren East 12 6 14 16 – 48Hart County (66) Childress 10, R. Romance 15, W.
