There will be just one mission for Glasgow High Schools girls golf team this week in Richmond three-peat. After capturing their sixth straight regional title and their 10th in 13 years last week at Glasgow Country Club, the Lady Scotties will gun for their third consecutive state title at Arlington Country Club. After a round of practice today, the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. With everyone back from a squad that won last years state title by 36 strokes over second-place Franklin County, Glasgow coach Mike Harris knows his team is the favorite this week. But Harris also knows that several squads will be gunning for the Lady Scotties. I think Western Hills will be right there, and Franklin County has been playing real well, too, Harris said.Owensboro Catholic should be right in there, too. Along with winning last weeks regional tournament, Glasgow enters the state tournament with a 78-match regular-season winning streak. The Lady Scotties won all four tournaments they entered this season, including the Central Hardin Invitational, Lady Gator Invitational, Womens Kentucky Invitational Tournament and Henry Clay Invitational. At the Henry Clay Invitational on Sept. 18, Glasgow just edged second-place finisher Western Hills, 300-301. Western Hills finished third in last years state tournament. There will be a lot of teams coming after us, Lady Scotties senior Morgan Hapney said. I think if we all play our best, weve got a pretty good shot. And while Hapney said she did not play her best last week, she still took individual honors at the regional tournament the second title of her career. Hapney will join teammate Whitney Wade as top contenders for an individual state championship in Richmond. Wade, a freshman, has finished as the runner-up at the last two state tournaments and lost in a playoff last year to Logan Countys Katherine Neely. Hapney placed third at last years state tournament at Midland Trail Golf Club in Louisville. Junior Casey Manion, who tied for fourth in last years state tournament, and eighth-grader Taryn Durham (tie 25th) round out Glasgows top four. I think we have four girls, who on any day, have a chance of contending, Harris said. Whichever one can avoid having one or two bad holes will have the best chance. Monroe County, last weeks runner-up, will join Glasgow in Richmond as Fifth Region representatives.Following are Tuesdays tee times for all southcentral Kentucky competitors. The top 12 teams and top 30 individuals following Tuesdays round will advance to Wednesdays play. All times are Central.
