Warren East runs to strong finish at LexCath

LEXINGTON Warren East High Schools cross country teams turned in a strong performance in Saturdays Lexington Catholic Invitational. Both the boys and girls teams captured second-place honors for Warren East. In the boys race, the Raiders finished with 89 points. Montgomery Bell (Tenn.) won with 57 points. The Lady Raiders finished second with 83 points. Heather Coulter led the way individually, finishing third overall in 20:11. Other runners for Warren East were Dannella McClure (12th, 21:10), Jenny Wimsatt (15th, 21:19), Tiffany Graham (22nd, 21:40), Megan Harkness (31st, 22:18), Lesleigh Lawrence (51st, 23:04) and Katie Fry (56th, 23:20).For the Raiders, Paul Isenberg turned in a team-best eighth-place performance with a time of 17:38. Luke Robinson (11th, 17:43), Brandon Borders (18th, 18:02), Cory Green (25th, 18:12), Patrick Smith (27th, 18:15), Derek Bowers (31st, 18:24) and Clayton Shuffett (33rd, 18:31) also ran for East. In other competition, Allen County-Scottsvilles girls finished sixth in the large-school division. The Lady Patriots Tabitha Morris was sixth in 21:27, followed by teammates Natasha Taylor (28th, 23:26), Jessica Pardue (30th, 23:48), Jennifer Towe (36th, 24:43) and Becky Traughber (46th, 26:03).Allen County-Scottsvilles Chris Young finished second in the boys large-school division in 16:31. The Patriots did not run a full boys team. Hillbilly RunBARDSTOWN Greenwoods boys captured fourth place Saturday in the Hillbilly Run. South Oldham won the team competition with 40 points. The Gators had 105 points. The Lady Gators took fifth place with 111 points. South Oldham won with 80.Individually, Greenwoods Brian Marr turned in a team-best fourth place performance in 16:52, followed by Ryan Daniel (13th, 17:30), Brad Easley (22nd, 17:58), Ronnie Leeper (24th, 18:04), Matt Smith (42nd, 18:50), Sean Hanlon (51st, 19:16) and Neil Jhamb (54th, 19:34).For the Lady Gators, Natalie Leeper finished sixth at 20:45 and Molly Wallace took seventh in 20:58. Emily Leeper (10th, 21:18), Leslie Brassfield (40th, 23:38), Whitney Beckner (48th, 25:15) and Laura Lowe (54th, 28:22) also ran for Greenwood.
