The Greenwood Lady Gators are seeking a little revenge tonight, but they’re also pursuing a more important goal: Advancing in the KHSAA State Tournament with a win over visiting Daviess County at 7 p.m. at Drakes Creek Middle School.

Daviess County (18-3) came to Bowling Green on Sept. 30 and walked away from Greenwood as a 2-1 winner. The Region 3 champs enter tonight’s Sub-Section 2 match after beating Ohio County - a team it lost three times to by a combined score of 6-1 this season.

“We know about as much as we could take from when we played them,” GHS coach Lindsay Passaglia said. “They’re a super, super organized team with a couple standout athletes. Overall, last time we played them we were fairly even, so we’re just gonna go into it with the same mentality we’ve had the past three or four games.”

In her first year at the helm, Passaglia has led the Lady Gators (11-7-3) to four straight wins, a District 8 title and a Region 4 title. She said Monday that focusing on the Lady Panthers perhaps isn’t as important as focusing on making sure the Lady Gators continue to play with the confidence they’ve shown in the past two weeks.

“We’ve definitely shown these past three games that we can score goals and we can win games,” Passaglia said. “I think as long as we go out and do that we should give them a good game, I would think.”

The Lady Gators are healthy, happy to be at home and encouraged by the prospect of a homefield advantage.

“They’re healthy right now - knock on wood - we’ve had a few swine flus the past couple of weeks.” Passaglia said. “They’re healthy, they’re good, they’re rested, they’ve recovered from the Bowling Green game (a 5-2 win Wednesday). I think they’re really, really excited that we’re here. It’s hopefully gonna bring in some fans and I think being here is hopefully gonna give us a good boost.”

Daviess County is averaging just fewer than three goals a contest and has been shut out just twice this season.

The winner of tonight’s match will host the Hopkinsville-Marshall County winner Thursday.
