GLASGOW — The Glasgow football team ended a 21-month winless drought Saturday, stunning Warren East 26-14 in the T.J. Samson Health Care Careers Bowl at Glasgow High School.

Glasgow (1-0) used a steady running game and some timely defensive stops in Rick Wood’s first game as head coach, helping the Scotties pick up their first win since beating Campbellsville 27-0 on Nov. 2, 2007.

GHS needed only six plays to get on the board. Tevion Boards had three carries for 29 yards on the drive, including a 13-yard touchdown run that made the score 7-0.

Glasgow took a little longer on the second possession, 11 plays, but the result was the same - a Boards rushing touchdown that gave the Scotties a 13-0 advantage.

After a botched punt by Warren East midway through the second quarter, Boards struck again for his third rushing touchdown of the half, giving Glasgow a 19-0 lead.

Warren East’s best chance to score in the first half came late, when it drove inside the 10, but a potential touchdown pass was dropped in the back of the end zone as time expired.

Warren East (0-1) was able to cash in late in the third quarter. The Raiders zipped down the field with a six-play, 98-yard drive - capped by an 11-yard scamper from Adarius Barnett - to cut the deficit to 19-7.

The Scotties quickly got the momentum back with a methodical drive. Glasgow used six minutes of clock, going 75 yards on 12 plays - with quarterback Parker Cash’s 5-yard touchdown run giving the Scotties a 26-7 lead with 7:44 left.

Warren East added a late touchdown pass from Prince Bennett to Justin Tobias, but was unable to get any closer.

Glasgow finished the night with 259 yards rushing. Parrish led the way with 129 yards, while Cash added 76 on the ground.

Barnett had 121 yards rushing for the Raiders.

Glasgow will face Herron, Ill., at the National Guard Warrior Bowl in Crittenden County at 7 p.m. Friday. Warren East will meet Apollo in the Independence Bank Border Bowl in Owensboro at 5 p.m. Friday.

Barren County 35, Metcalfe County 0

The Trojans returned the opening kick for a touchdown and never looked back, cruising to win in game one of the T.J. Samson Bowl.

Tyler Thurman got Barren County (1-0) started with a 79-yard kick return and Colby Long added a 10-yard fumble return as the Trojans built a commanding 21-0 halftime lead.

Senior Colton Phelps finished the night with 96 yards rushing and two scores.

Barren County will play at Bullitt Central on Friday.
