An TV ad that appeared several days ago in the Louisville market that targeted 2nd District congressional candidate Brett Guthrie was grossly inaccurate and highly unfair.

The attack launched by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on behalf of Guthrie’s opponent, David Boswell, said that Guthrie’s family business, Trace Die Cast, shipped work to Mexico that could have stayed in Kentucky.

This distorted attack ad couldn’t be any further from the truth. One television station has already pulled the ad and another in the Louisville market is considering pulling it.

The facts are that Trace had a contract to make a part and ship it to Mexico. All of the work was done at Trace Die Cast by employees of that company and shipped to Mexico and the part didn’t come back to Trace Die Cast.

The DCCC obviously didn’t do their homework on this one.

The ad was basically saying that Guthrie and his family were outsourcing work to Mexico, which simply isn’t the truth.

The Guthries are a true success story. Guthrie’s father and his cousin started the company years ago with modest beginnings. The company started with 10 employees and today has more than 500.

Instead of being criticized, Trace deserves praise for providing work for their employees by selling into overseas markets, which also benefits our nation’s trade deficit.

“They are railing against an American success story,” said Brett Guthrie. “We have actually maintained jobs in Kentucky.”

Not only has the Guthrie family brought a lot of jobs to the 2nd District, the family has done a lot for the community. They donated the beautiful Guthrie Bell Tower, a focal point on the Western Kentucky University’s campus, and they are involved in the annual Fourth of July extravaganza on that site. Guthrie’s brother is involved in redevelopment around WKU, which is part of the larger downtown redevelopment program, and they are also involved in other good works in our community.

This attack on Trace Die Cast and by extension the Guthrie family is untrue and their neighbors in southcentral Kentucky who know them best know it.

Our question is this: How many jobs has the DCCC brought to Warren County and the 2nd Congressional District?

" Now that we have had a Guthrie family love-in, let's take a long hard look at Lil Brett and the fact that he wimped out of the Army just as 540,000 American serice personnel were heading to the Middle East and the First Gulf War. Brett Guthrie owed the American people an obligation to serve after he was afforded a West Point education. Rather than fulfill his obligation like a man, this so called artillery officer found that drawing a paycheck from daddy was preferable to drawing fire. "

" When is Brett Guthrie going to explain how he was able to get a two year early discharge from the Army. Instead of fulfilling his military commitment after the taxpayers footed the bill for his West Point education, Guthrie tucked tail and ran while the rest of America's military went to war during Desert Storm. The man is a disgrace. "

" Now if we could just get Lil Brett to tell us how he got a two year early out from the Army so he could draw a paycheck from daddy while real American heroes fought and died in Desert Storm! "

" When is Lil Brett gunna tell the public know how he got a two year early out from the Army just as the rest of the American military was heading to Desert Storm? When the truth comes out on this one maybe one of Trace's green card employees will give Brett a job south of the border. "

" I have worked with Brett on several local projects and have nothing but the highest regard for him. He is truly involved and concerned for the welfare of this region, and all Kentuckians. For the DCCC to have such an ad is shameful. Now, exactly WHAT is the DCCC candidate doing for Kentucky? I can't tell from the ad. I would only hope the local Bowling Green TV stations choose to verify the ads they consider running and to not run false ads. They should choose accuracy and morals over money before running these type of political attacks. "

" I heard good things about Bret from Earl Fischer. If you work hard and help others,it pays off in the long run. "

" Would you please correct the first word in this Editorial Opinion? Should it not be "A" TV ad .....? It would also be proper to write, "An ad appearing several days ago ....". If I am wrong on this please correct me. "
