An TV ad that appeared several days ago in the Louisville market that targeted 2nd District congressional candidate Brett Guthrie was grossly inaccurate and highly unfair.
The attack launched by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on behalf of Guthrie’s opponent, David Boswell, said that Guthrie’s family business, Trace Die Cast, shipped work to Mexico that could have stayed in Kentucky.
This distorted attack ad couldn’t be any further from the truth. One television station has already pulled the ad and another in the Louisville market is considering pulling it.
The facts are that Trace had a contract to make a part and ship it to Mexico. All of the work was done at Trace Die Cast by employees of that company and shipped to Mexico and the part didn’t come back to Trace Die Cast.
The DCCC obviously didn’t do their homework on this one.
The ad was basically saying that Guthrie and his family were outsourcing work to Mexico, which simply isn’t the truth.
The Guthries are a true success story. Guthrie’s father and his cousin started the company years ago with modest beginnings. The company started with 10 employees and today has more than 500.
Instead of being criticized, Trace deserves praise for providing work for their employees by selling into overseas markets, which also benefits our nation’s trade deficit.
“They are railing against an American success story,” said Brett Guthrie. “We have actually maintained jobs in Kentucky.”
Not only has the Guthrie family brought a lot of jobs to the 2nd District, the family has done a lot for the community. They donated the beautiful Guthrie Bell Tower, a focal point on the Western Kentucky University’s campus, and they are involved in the annual Fourth of July extravaganza on that site. Guthrie’s brother is involved in redevelopment around WKU, which is part of the larger downtown redevelopment program, and they are also involved in other good works in our community.
This attack on Trace Die Cast and by extension the Guthrie family is untrue and their neighbors in southcentral Kentucky who know them best know it.
Our question is this: How many jobs has the DCCC brought to Warren County and the 2nd Congressional District?
