Chamber announces ribbon cuttings

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce has a ribbon cutting Thursday. The ribbon cutting celebrates the Western Kentucky University's Parking and Transportation Services building at 578 Campbell Lane, behind Walgreens. The event begins at 2 p.m. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is the featured guest.

On Monday, a ribbon cutting for Morris Jewelry begins at 10 a.m. at 408 E Main Ave. to celebrate the store's 125th anniversary.

A ribbon cutting for DACS at 905 Lovers Lane, Suite 200, starts at 4 p.m. Monday, celebrating its new location.

Seminar on HVAC basics set for Oct. 17

The Builders Association of South Central Kentucky has a seminar Oct. 17 for HVAC Basic Facts. Dean Holmes of Koch Air teaches the seminar. The event is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and all attending must pre-register at 781-3375.

Builders membership meeting is Thursday

The Builders Association of South Central Kentucky has its general membership meeting Thursday. Social hour is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with dinner and program at 7 p.m. Bowling Green Municipal Utilities is the sponsor for the event. For more information, call the builders association at 781-3375.

Realtors Association installs '07 leadership

Kentucky Association of REALTORS, one of the state's largest professional associations representing over 11,400 members, elected and installed the 2007 KAR Board of Directors during the 84th annual KAR Convention in Owensboro.

Dan Jenkins earns sales award for ETW

Steve Huff, regional sales manager for the ETW Corporation of Newark, N.J., presented Dan Jenkins Jr. of Bowling Green with ETW's excellence award for superior sales in SK Hand Tools for Kentucky. The award was presented at a dinner at Montana Grill.

Jenkins has been a sales representative of Dan Jenkins Sales Co. since October 2004.

Dan Jenkins Sales has been in business since 1984 and carries hand and power tools for automotive and truck industries.

As an independent mobile tool jobber, Dan Jenkins Sales serves a 22-county area in Kentucky.

More volunteers for counseling are needed

The Service Corps of Retired Executives seeks volunteers to provide counseling for potential owners of new business and for current owners of businesses.

Qualified candidates must be able to provide good situation analysis and business problem solving advice. Counselors must be available between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon on Tuesdays at the Chamber office.

Anyone interested in joining the SCORE counselors should contact Frank Lederer at 393-0046.

Joe Liles named to national water board

Joe Liles, former general manager of the Warren County Water District, was named one of 28 members on the American Water Works Association's Water Utility Council.

Liles will serve as a representative of the 24,800 water systems that are members of the National Rural Water Association.

Deputy executive director of the AWWA, Tom Curtis, said the purpose of the WUC is to ensure laws and regulations make sense for water utilities and their customers.

As an active member of the NRWA since 1979, Liles currently serves as secretary, an elected position to the executive board. The NRWA Board has the responsibility of addressing regulatory, environmental, legislative, technical assistance and training challenges facing America's water industry.

“This is a position of significant responsibility,” said Alan Vilines, Warren County Water District general manager.

Career expo planned for Oct. 19 at WKU

Western Kentucky University hosts about 100 business, industry, government, school system and graduate school recruiters at the WKU Career Expo on Oct. 19.

The expo is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knicely Conference Center, WKU South Campus.

All students and alumni are encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity to meet with company representatives for the purpose of career exploration and permanent or internship employment. The expo is free to students and alumni.
